The Reason It's Called a Balloon Fiesta

For every event that has been added on the field, countless other non-balloon activities have been added to surround the Balloon Fiesta with the exciting atmosphere of the festival envisioned back in 1972. Queens have reigned, parades have marched down Central Avenue, fireworks and Wild Wac Air Shows have burst across the sky. There have been trade shows, art shows, horse shows, and toy shows. From the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Leapfrogs Parachute Team to Kite Flying and Flashdancing, the Balloon Fiesta has pursued every avenue of entertainment for the pilots and spectators alike. Toga Parties and Zoo Parties, Concerts, Gala Balls and black tie dinners have provided every brand of get together imaginable. From bluegrass to opera and high school drill teams to ballet, Fiesta goers have been provided unlimited opportunities to be entertained. This virtually endless and varied list of social events has become such an integral part of Fiesta, that it is as responsible for Albuquerque's popularity as the balloon event itself. And it further exudes the spirit of fun and fellowship that the Balloon Fiesta has come to represent in the eyes of the world.

Today Balloon Fiesta is recognized worldwide as the trademark for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
