Navigator Job Descriptions

Artisans at Balloon Fiesta is the ONLY arts and crafts tent located onsite during Balloon Fiesta.

HOURS OF OPERATION
Morning Sessions: 5:30AM to 11:00AM
Evening Sessions: 4:00PM to 8:30PM
Double session days from 5:30AM to 8:30PM
Begins 3 days prior to event, includes teardown after event

SAMPLE DUTIES
-Ensure the Artisans tent is ready for check in and set up including making sure that all booth spaces are measured and laid out correctly
-Assist artisans with the check in/registration/set up process during the three days prior to Balloon Fiesta
-Open and close the tent daily. Tasks may include climb a ladder, place flags outside, turn heaters on/off
-Collect and organize daily paperwork
-Secure and monitor necessary items for daily activity
-Maintain visibility in the tent as extra security
-Provide general guidance and assistance to guests as well as artisans
-General liaison for artisans
-Assist artisans with the checkout/tear down process on the final day of Balloon Fiesta
-Ensure that all artisan areas are left clean and in good order
-Maintain cleanliness of the general areas of the tent, including sweeping and trash removal

SKILLS
-The ideal volunteer is energetic and enjoys engaging with people
-Be mobile and able to do a fair amount of standing and/or walking for 4+ hours
-Be willing and able to climb a ladder
-Have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds
-Be able to communicate effectively, clearly, and with empathy

The Balloon Discovery Center is a hands-on area geared towards teaching guests, especially children, about the sport and science of ballooning and Balloon Fiesta.

HOURS OF OPERATION
Morning Sessions: 5:30 AM to 11:00 AM
Evening Sessions: 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Set up is the Saturday one week prior to event 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Teardown is final Sunday 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Orientation one evening the week prior to Balloon Fiesta

SAMPLE DUTIES
-Set up and learn the basics of each exhibit
-Ensure that all exhibits are in proper working order and are ready for guests to arrive daily
-Educate guests about the sport and science of ballooning and Balloon Fiesta
-Demonstrate how to operate and answer questions regarding the exhibits
-Engage guests in conversation about the materials
-Answer questions to enhance the guests' Balloon Fiesta experience or direct guests to those who may know the answer such as the information booths, staff members, or officials
-Secure and monitor necessary items for daily activity
-Provide general guidance and assistance to guests
-Ensure that all exhibit areas are left clean and in good order
-Open and close the tent and perform all necessary duties to do so
-Maintain cleanliness of the tent, including sweeping and trash removal
-Tear down all exhibits and return all Balloon Discovery Center items back to storage after the final session of Balloon Fiesta

SKILLS
-The ideal volunteer is energetic and enjoys engaging with people, especially children
-Positive interaction and communication with all guests, especially children
-Be mobile and able to do a fair amount of walking and/or standing for 4+ hours
-Be willing and able to climb a ladder
-Have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds
-Be able to communicate effectively and clearly

Concession Row, also called Main Street, is the only area of food and merchandise concessions at Balloon Fiesta.

Concession Office
Morning Sessions: 5:30 AM to 9:30 AM
Evening Sessions: 4:00 PM to end of fireworks

SAMPLE DUTIES
-Ensure concession row is ready for set up including repainting boundaries/markings as necessary during the week(s) prior to concession check in
-Review concession row for needed improvements
-Assist concessionaires with the check in and registration process during the two weeks prior to Balloon Fiesta
-Collect and organize daily paperwork as needed
-Secure and monitor necessary items for daily activity
-Provide general guidance and assistance to guests as well as concessionaires
-Interact with Food Service Management provider as needed
-Assist concessionaires with the check-out process on the final day of Balloon Fiesta as well as the two days following Balloon Fiesta
-Ensure that all concession areas are left clean and in good order

SKILLS
-The ideal volunteer is energetic and enjoys engaging with people
-Be mobile and able to do a fair amount of walking up and down Main Street
-Be willing and able to climb a ladder
-Have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds
-Be able to communicate effectively, clearly, and with empathy
-REQUIRES driving a golf cart (see driving requirements)

The Courtesy Shuttle program provides both a safe and secure ride for all visitors that have difficulty traversing the field during Balloon Fiesta and also to take guest to and from the many gates and parking lots around the park. We also move navigators and officials to assigned areas within the park. This allows guests and navigators to ride from one end of the field to another or from the gates and parking lots without having to worry about traveling those distances by foot if they have difficulty or time constraints during Balloon Fiesta.

Mornings 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Evenings 3:30 PM to 10:30 PM
Mandatory training class before the event

SAMPLE DUTIES
-To transport guests from any of the 15 parking lots and 32 gates around the field and back to their respected lots and/or gates as need be.
-Occasionally drive the field, if you are a roamer, to make sure our elderly or handicap guest can get a ride if need be.

SKILLS
-No physical demands
-Minimum age 20
-Driver's license
-Good Driving Record (verified)

The Gondola Club is a reserved area that lets visitors get away from the crowds with private seating indoors and out, delicious food and luxury bathrooms. In addition to the private setting, Gondola Club members enjoy a prime location for viewing the event, special nearby parking, gourmet buffet meal and shuttle transportation to and from parking area and Main Street.

HOURS OF OPERATION
Mornings 5:00 AM to 10:30 AM
Evenings 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Event set up Friday prior to event.

SAMPLE DUTIES
-Registration/check-in
-Hand out gifts and pins
-Place wristbands on guests, including large groups
-Check in staff, officials and board members
-Work with caterer

Cart Driver/Dispatcher
-Provide shuttle access for Gondola Club guests, to and from Gondola Club, Main Street, Gondola Club parking lot, or anyplace within the event, while making the guest experience fun and exciting.

Parking lot attendent
-Help guests park to ensure that the parking lot is used in the most efficient way possible

SKILLS (Cart Driver)
-Must have current drivers' license with no DUI or reckless driving citations.
-Must be willing to submit to a background check of Motor Vehicle Records
-Must carry current drivers’ license with them at all times while driving cart
-Be a good driver
-Minimum age 20

This team will be inside the park near the entrances to greet guests, answer questions and hand out our Survival Guides.

- Be knowledgeable of the Balloon Fiesta schedule and where key areas are in the park
- Mobile and stand for 4+ hours

There are 3 information booths located on the field. The information booths provide guests with Maps/survival guides and brochures of the surrounding area and answer any questions the guests may have about the event.

- Direct guests to the exit gate with consideration of their safety at all times
- Offer information on the event and areas

- To assist the guests with whatever is needed within policy

- Be knowledgeable of the Balloon Fiesta schedule and where key areas are in the park

-Minimum Age 18

This stage features our National Anthem performers, local dance and music talent, and a wide variety of musical performances. This area also oversees the Main Street Strolling Performers, as well as the North Main Street Stage.

HOURS
Morning Sessions: 5:00AM to 11:00AM 
Evening Sessions: 3:00PM to 10:00PM

SAMPLE DUTIES
- Ensure that the Main Street Stage is ready for set up at each session 
- Assist performers as a stage hand with stage set up and tear down as needed
- Assist Stage Manager, Performers, and AIBF Staff as needed
- Effective communication with officials and Balloon Fiesta Management for performance timing
- Secure and monitor necessary items for daily activity
- Maintain the cleanliness of the Main Street Stage, including sweeping and trash removal
- Provide general guidance and assistance to guests as well as performers
- Answer questions to enhance the guests and Balloon Fiesta experience or direct guests to those who may know the answer such as the information booths, staff members, or officials

SKILLS
- The ideal volunteer is energetic and enjoys engaging with people
- Positive interaction and communication with all guests
- Be mobile and able to do a fair amount of walking and/or standing for the duration of a shift, 4+ hours
- Be willing and able to climb a ladder
- Have the ability to lift up to 60 pounds
- Be able to communicate effectively ad clearly during potentially stressful times
- Ability to keep entertainment on a schedule and communicate with officials as to when changes may occur

This team works in our Navigator Tent which is only for our Volunteers. This is an area where our volunteers can go to grab a snack, drink and hot meal away from the crowds of the event.

HOURS OF OPERATION
Morning Sessions 3:35 AM to 9:00 AM (10:00 AM)
Mid-day Sessions 8:45am to 2:00pm (Sun, Thurs, Fri)
Evening Sessions 3:30 PM to 7:45 PM

SAMPLE DUTIES
- To stock food, cut food and place in cups or bowls so volunteers can grab a snack and go.
- Clean tables
- Get food ready for delivery to teams.
- Follow food safety for hot and cold items.

SKILLS

- Can work Independently and as a Team

The Pilot and Crew Hospitality Pavilion is in the Sid Cutter Pilot Pavilion. This reserved area is a gathering place for pilots and chase crew members to come together in the morning and meet for some breakfast or snacks prior to the morning’s event.
