Rick Bowles has been a longtime Balloon Fiesta volunteer. After his 42nd year volunteering, he is retiring.

In this month’s Inside the Basket, Rick shares how he became involved with this event. From piloting to volunteering, we celebrate and thank him for his dedication to Balloon Fiesta.

Dave Kinney has worked with Balloon Fiesta, to provide a unique guest experience for Balloon Fiesta’s Gondola Club goers, for nearly 15 years. 

In this month’s Inside the Basket, Dave shares his passion for balloons through the introduction of his personal ballooning hobbies and Balloon Fiesta background. From chase crewing to training navigators, he provides great insight into some of Balloon Fiesta’s most exclusive options.

Mary Ann Harness has worked for over 21 years in the public affairs office at the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (formerly Dryden) located on Edwards Air Force Base in California. NASA, which stands for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, has10 different centers, and the Armstrong Flight Research Center is the premier center for atmospheric flight research and testing.

For over 10 years, Mary Ann has led the NASA exhibit at Balloon Fiesta, located in the Balloon Discovery Center. In this month’s Inside the Basket, Mary Ann shares her love of teaching the public about all things related to aeronautics, from why high altitude flying requires a high-altitude pressure suit to what cool new aircrafts are currently being developed.

Kim Vesely is both a pilot and a navigator for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, having dedicated her time to the event in a variety of different capacities.

Her introduction to the Balloon Fiesta came as a result of her time covering the event for KOB-TV back in the seventies. She was a young news producer assigned to cover the event because "nobody else wanted to get up that early." Her path to becoming a pilot is whole other story that you'll want to read about in this month's Inside the Basket.
