Overview
Balloon Fiesta is the world’s premier ballooning event. Beginning as a small celebration in 1972 and with only 13 balloons, the event has grown into an international celebration. Modern day Balloon Fiesta takes place every first full week of October in Albuquerque, New Mexico. For nine days, guests attending can expect to see upwards of 500 hot air balloons, flown by pilots from around the world. It’s truly a magical scene that allows those attending to be steps away from hundreds of hot air balloons launching from Balloon Fiesta Park.
Q: When is the 2021 Balloon Fiesta?
A: The 49thevent is set to take place October 2-10, 2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Q: Was an event held in 2020?
A: No, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related State of New Mexico Public Health Orders, the 2020 event was postponed; the only year the event was not held since our first event in 1972. We look forward to celebrating our 49thevent in 2021 and our 50thin 2022.
Q: How will the pandemic change how guests participate in the 2021 event?
A: COVID-19 has impacted families, communities and businesses across the globe, including large-gathering events. New Mexico’s Office of the Governor continues to update public health orders for outdoor events, including Balloon Fiesta. Our planning and focus is to safely launch our nine-day event on October 2, 2021. On the field, guests always have the opportunity to regulate how close they are to other guests. We will update guests related to social distancing, mask mandates and other items identified in public health orders on our website at BalloonFiesta.com. More details on Balloon Fiesta’s public health plan, including COVID-19-safe practices will be available this summer on our website balloonfiesta.com.
Q: What should I wear and bring?
A: Early mornings can be quite chilly, but as the sun comes up temperatures increase quickly; it’s best to wear layers that allow you to adjust for the temperature changes. We also recommend bringing sunscreen, lip balm, water and of course, don’t forget to charge your phone or camera! Backpacks are allowed but are subject to check by security.
